Multnomah Channel Yacht Club (MCYC) history
- Formed in 1961 by a group of people interested in boating and family fun!
- Our original clubhouse was originally purchased in 1963 and moored at Larson's Moorage near the Sauvie Island Bridge, moving to its present location in 1989 on the Multnomah Channel across from Sauvie Island approximately 3 miles east of Scappoose.
- New docks and covered slips available.
- Purchased our current floating clubhouse in 1996 and moved it to the current location which has a dancefloor, bar, industrial kitchen, and accommodations for 125.
MCYC is a nonprofit corporation chartered under the corporate laws of the State of Oregon, maintaining its principle office at 50990 Dike Road, Scappoose, Oregon. MCYC is a member of Columbia River Yachting Assn.
Membership in MCYC is for individuals and families who are interested in boating and water activities. Boat ownership is not a prerequisite for membership. A “member” is defined as a single person or couple (including the minor children of that member) 21 years of age or older.
MCYC is a club that is run by the membership.
- The ramp, clubhouse and moorage are member responsibilities with fundraisers that occur all year to ensure proactive maintenance.
- Fundraising events occur through many different types of events including:
- Annual Commodore's Ball
- Patrick's celebration
- Halloween party
- Christmas Ships
- Other casual parties thrown throughout the year
- All to be hosted or co-hosted and ran by the membership
- Fundraising events occur through many different types of events including:
- The clubhouse can be used by all the members with a rental fee of $100.00 (weddings, holiday parties, special interest/hobby/family get-togethers.)
- MCYC does have covered moorage and boat slips up to 40 feet are often available for short-term or long-term rental.
Over the years, MCYC has built a reputation as the friendliest club in the Portland area. “The Best Ships are Friendships!” We always try to show our hospitality and kindness to everyone in the boating and non-boating community. MCYC is an educational resource providing access to training and education for boating and water safety, and is family friendly.
We have members that are fishermen (you can fish right from the docks or slips!) water-skiers, experienced skippers (hirable captains of you need one!) and we have all sizes of boats, small and large. Our members come from all walks of life with the common interest of boating and waterway recreation and/or lifestyles!
Join the Friendliest Boat Club in Portland!
